Texas adds 62,800 new jobs in April 2022
AUSTIN — Texas added 62,800 total nonagricultural jobs in April 2022, showing growth in the number of new jobs for the sixth consecutive month, according to data released late last week by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC).
The state set new employment records last month as total nonfarm jobs reached 13,284,500 in April 2022. Texas has added 742,000 jobs since April 2021 and more than 100,000 in the past two months.
“The Texas economy continues to shift from recovery to expansion with positive job growth for more than a year and many industries exceeding full recovery of jobs lost during the pandemic,” TWC Chairman Bryan Daniel said.
The growth in new jobs is further proof that Texas truly is the best state for business, said Robert Allen, president and CEO of the Texas Economic Development Corporation.
“We’re excited to see this business expansion for Texas employers and more good jobs for Texans,” he said. “We have been preparing for job growth through a longstanding collaboration between business, government, universities, community colleges and technical trade schools to prepare and train a robust workforce ready to take these news jobs.”
In April, Leisure and Hospitality gained 13,500 jobs over the month. Education and Health Services added 8,800 positions, followed by Financial Activities employment, which grew by 8,700 jobs. Mining and Logging added 6,600 jobs, a 3.2% increase from March 2022.
Texas’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate dropped to 4.3%, a decrease of 0.1 percentage points from March 22. The Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs) in Texas that recorded the lowest unemployment rates in April are the Amarillo and Austin-Round Rock MSAs, with a not seasonally adjusted rate of 2.5%, followed by College Station-Bryan at 2.7% and Lubbock at 2.8%.
