Parsley Energy

Founded in 2008 by Bryan Sheffield, Parsley Energy is a Permian-focused independent oil and natural gas company. The company is exclusively focused on the most prolific portions of the Permian Basin, one of the most resource-rich oil basins in the world. Originally headquartered in Midland, Parsley relocated its headquarters to Austin in 2014. The move to Austin has played a key role in the company’s rapid growth and long-term success.

Upon its move to Austin, Parsley became a crucial player in Austin’s energy sector. The company was hailed as one of the best places to work in Austin in 2017 and 2018 and has formed lasting relationships with the community through its partnerships with The Trail Foundation, The Nature Conservancy, the Zilker Park Theater and other local organizations.

Parsley maintained field offices in Midland, Fort Stockton and Monahans and its approximately 500 employees are roughly split between Austin and West Texas. In 2018, Parsley leased a 31-story tower in downtown Austin, further solidifying its commitment to Austin as its headquarters.

The choice to relocate Parsley’s headquarters to Austin was largely based on talent recruitment, as well as the advancement for new ideas. President and CEO Matt Gallagher said that Austin’s “academic presence is certainly helpful in terms of a strong pipeline of technical employees.”
