The Lone Star State Earns the Most Consecutive Awards for New and Expanded Corporate Facilities of Any State

Texas has won Site Selection Magazine’s Governor’s Cup award, recognizing the Lone Star State for attracting the most qualified projects of any state in 2017.

Texas has been the recipient of Site Selection’s top projects award 14 times since the ranking’s inception in 1978. In 2017, Texas took home the sixth consecutive Governor’s Cup, the only state to do so in the award’s history. Over that time, Texas secured 4,045 total projects, or 1.8 projects per day for the last six years.

“The Governor’s Cups recognize not only the winning governors, but their entire economic development teams, and by extension, the many professionals throughout their states who work every day to attract new investment and retain and grow existing businesses,” says Mark Arend, editor in chief of Site Selection.

Among the many factors that helped Texas to win, Governor Greg Abbott credits Texas’ workforce and efforts to ensure that the state’s labor pool continues to meet the requirements of investing businesses now and in the future.

Site Selection’s Conway Projects Database focuses on new corporate facility projects with significant impact, including headquarters, manufacturing plants, R&D operations and logistics sites, among others. Recently, Texas saw major investments from industry leaders including Toyota, Boeing, Charles Schwab, Merck and Kubota, which selected Texas for its pro-business climate, world-class infrastructure, skilled workforce and central North American location.
