Three Texas Metros Ranked in Top 10 for 2020 Projects

Three Texas metropolitan areas with populations exceeding 1 million have been ranked in the Top 10 Metros in 2020 for total number of economic development projects and two Texas metropolitan areas with populations less than 200,000 ranked in the Top 10 in their category, Site Selection magazine announced in March.

DallasFort Worth–Arlington ranks No. 2 with 262 projects; Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land ranks No. 3 with 213 projects; and Austin–Round Rock ranks No. 6 with 84 projects.

Major projects in 2020 that contributed to these top rankings include Tesla and Oracle in Austin, Ariat International and Wesco Aircraft in Fort Worth, and CBRE in Dallas, among others.

Two additional Texas metros ranked in the Top 10 in the Tier 3 Metros category (population less than 200,000). Midland, TX, and Odessa, TX, tied for sixth place with other metros, thanks to seven total project announcements for each metro in 2020.

Site Selection also announced in March that Texas had won the Governor’s Cup for most total projects in 2020 for a record ninth year in a row.
