AUSTIN – The Texas Workforce Commission today announced that Texas saw continued seasonally adjusted job growth in February with the addition of 7,100 positions for the month. Texas’ seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell to 4.3 percent in February, down from 4.4 percent in January. Texas continues to maintain an unemployment rate well below the U.S. national unemployment rate which now stands at 5.5 percent. Governor Greg Abbott today accepted the 2014 Governor’s Cup, an award given annually by Site Selection Magazine to recognize the top performing state for capital investment attraction in a season that lasts all year. 2014 was the third year in a row and sixth year since 2004 that Texas has been honored with the award.


AUSTIN – The United States Department of Education’s National Center for Education Statistics recently released information detailing state-by-state graduation rates in 2012-13, with Texas’ Class of 2013 graduating at a rate of 88 percent and outpacing the national average of 81 percent. This was the third consecutive year the state’s high school graduation rate eclipsed the national average.


Governor Greg Abbott today delivered his 2015 State of the State address to a joint session of the Texas House and Senate. In his remarks, Governor Abbott laid out his legislative priorities and detailed a roadmap to achieve his agenda. The Governor also announced five emergency items: early education, higher education research initiatives, transportation funding, border security funding and ethics reform.


According to today’s U.S. Census Bureau’s press release ,Texas is a leader in the global marketplace. In 2014,  for the thirteenth year in a row, Texas was ranked as the number one state by export revenues.  Texas exports for 2014 totaled almost $289.02 billion, up from over $279.5 billion in 2014.  The state’s exports outperformed overall U.S. exports, which only grew by 2.4 percent to $1.62 trillion in 2014 from $1.58 trillion in 2013. Governor Abbott with Women-Owned Business Leaders at NFIB Small Business Day 2015

AUSTIN – Governor Greg Abbott today addressed the National Federation of Independent Business’ (NFIB) Small Business Day Luncheon where he highlighted his plan to make Texas number one in the nation for women-owned businesses. In addition to delivering remarks, Governor Abbott received the “Champion of Small Business Award” from the NFIB and the “Fiesta Medal” from the National Association of Women Business Owners (San Antonio).
